TIFFE Monthly Trading Volume in February 2001

TIFFE announced that monthly trading volume of Three-month Euroyen futures, flagship contract on TIFFE, was 1,073,040 contracts. The average daily volume of Three-month Euroyen futures was 56,476 contracts, down 9% from January 2001.

Overview of Three-month Euroyen futures market in February 2001 is as below:

Three-month Euroyen futures prices went up through February. On the first half of February, with expectation to additional monetary easing, prices went up gradually. On February 9th, prices soared after BoJ decided to reduce the official discount rate to 0.35%.

On the second half of February, prices remained high revel as stock prices continued to fall. On February 28th, BoJ again decided to reduce the official discount rate to 0.25%, as well as uncollateralized overnight rate to 0.15%, so that prices soared again.
